Position overview
We are looking for a Trainee Researcher for a 12-month programme with the potential for permanent employment based on performance. This is a perfect opportunity for recent graduates or those with one or two years of work experience.
This entry-level role will support our research, advocacy, and activism work. The ideal candidate is eager to learn, reliable, professional and has excellent communication skills.
In this role you will learn about:
- Climate science and climate policy issues crucial to understanding and addressing corporate transition plans;
- Corporate governance frameworks and best practice, including analysis of corporate disclosures and preparation for and attendance of annual general meetings;
- Labour market inequality and how it shapes overall inequality in South Africa;
- The role of shareholder activism in shaping corporate behavior and regulatory policy;
- International trends and frameworks related to sustainable finance and responsible investing;
- The impact of corporate lobbying on public governance; and
- The non-profit and philanthropic landscape.
You will also be given the opportunity to:
- Develop your interpersonal skills and enhance your capacity to collaborate and work as part of a multi-disciplinary team;
- Gain experience in communicating complex ideas clearly, both in writing and verbally; and
- Learn how to assess and analyse information for credibility and relevance.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Conducting research and analysis of corporate disclosures, financial data, and other relevant materials.
- Compiling and maintaining databases.
- Contributing to research reports, investor briefings, regulatory submissions, and strategic communications outputs.
- Assisting in investor and company engagement.
- Providing general administrative support and assistance including AGM preparation, attendance and reporting.
Requirements
- At least a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
- Previous research or analytical experience is beneficial but not required.
- Interest in social justice, sustainable finance and corporate accountability.
- Research and analysis abilities with a strong willingness to learn.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Effective written and verbal communication.
- Attention to detail and accuracy.

The salary for this role is R310 000 per annum, cost to company.
