As a trainee researcher at Just Share, Aphinda supports the organisation’s three core focus areas and various advocacy initiatives.
Aphinda completed her BSc in Applied Statistics and Chemistry from the University of Cape Town in 2022. After graduating, she spent a year teaching in Eastern Cape. Before that, she volunteered throughout university as a tutor at an NGO supporting high school learners in townships.
In 2024, Aphinda worked in the Climate Change and Variability unit of the Research and Development department at the South African Weather Service (SAWS). Her work focused on research into the projected future of extreme weather events in South Africa under various climate scenarios, climate modelling, and climate change projections, and contributed to early warning and adaptation initiatives or projects. Aphinda has also co-authored some scientific articles on climate change.
Initially Aphinda was drawn to the field by her interest in applying statistical methods to climate research, and through her exposure to real world climate challenges developed motivation for climate justice and became inspired to engage in activism. She then joined Just Share in 2025 because of its focus on both inequality and climate change, as well as its work in corporate accountability and governance.
