Masutane joined Just Share as Communications Manager in May 2024. Having begun her career in journalism, Masutane transitioned into a communications specialist within the civil society sector. She has crafted and executed communications strategies for various pan-African non-profit organisations, and shaped well-functioning communications departments.

Before joining Just Share, Masutane worked as a Digital Communications Manager at the South African Institute of International Affairs based at the University of Witwatersrand, where she oversaw the organisation’s day-to-day communications activities. At Health-e News, she managed a team of award-winning citizen journalists who wrote health stories from South Africa’s 11 NHI pilot districts. In this role, she also co-developed a comprehensive guide for citizen journalists to equip local activists and community members to better report on public health issues in their areas.

Masutane has a National Diploma in Journalism from the Cape Peninsula University of Technology, BA Honours in Journalism from the University of Witwatersrand and a Master’s Degree in Journalism attained from the University of Johannesburg. She was part of cohort 6 of the DG Murray Trust’s Digital Communications for NGOs programme in 2022.

Most recently, Masutane has been selected as a 2024/2025 Policy Leader Fellow within the Florence School of Transnational Governance at the European University Institute. As a fellow, she aspires to address crucial societal concerns encompassing inequality and technological transformation and combatting the proliferation of misinformation.
